  ORIGINS

"Von Schmeling" (1967) (3), who undertook studies of the Stevia both in Paraguay and Brazil, has stated that the Ka'a He'ê can be found mainly in Paraguay where it grows in small areas of difficult access. From the Monday in the South up to the heights of the Amambay mountain range in the North, thus covering the San Pedro and Yhú zone and the proximity of the Jejuí Guazú.

According to Shock (1982) (4) the natural habitat of the Stevia can be found in the Northeast of Paraguay. A collection of plants, of spontaneous growth, was undertaken by the author in the vicinity of where the Ypane River starts, in the Province of Amambay, an area that is situated at 200 metres above sea level.

According to studies undertaken by Sumida (1975) (5), a more precise region can be found between Latitude 22º and 24º South and Longitude 55º and 56º West which encompass the Amambay mountain range.
